Innovation exchange with Russia

Supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Russia to join EU-funded projects helps further innovation and development. This is true not only for the EU's large eastern neighbour but also for SMEs in the EU.
Innovation exchange with Russia
Russia is a world power with sophisticated research capabilities that could be of much benefit to the EU. At the same time, the EU's solid evolution in research and development (R&D) can also be of benefit to Russia. The EU-funded project 'Connecting Russian and European technologies and innovation systems' (Creation) fostered research exchanges by helping Russian SMEs participate in EU projects.

Creation promoted information flow and provision of services in both directions to further research and innovation. Focusing on the regions of Moscow and St. Petersburg, Creation established an online partner search tool by theme and a customised website to bring Russian SMEs closer to the EU.

In addition, the project organised two international training workshops under the banner 'Participation of Russian RTD organisations and small and medium enterprises in the Sixth Framework Programme and innovation activities'. The workshops gathered over 200 participants from a variety of research organisations and SMEs across the country, as well as government stakeholders and EU representatives.

Extending Web services in the Russian language to users and disseminating useful material to Russian stakeholders has helped to support project efforts. The initiatives have helped raise awareness on EU-funded projects and have supported Russian SMEs significantly in embarking on joint projects with the EU, particularly in research, technology and development (RTD).

The Creation consortium has also helped the EU further one of its main goals, to open up the European Research Area (ERA) to the rest of the world. Lastly, it enabled European SMEs to access a treasure of information from Russian partners, fostering valuable information exchanges and supporting innovation at the highest levels.
