Major event buoys transport and trade
As trade and travel within Europe increase, it is important to facilitate all forms of transport across the continent in support of the European Research Area (ERA). The EU-funded project 'Promoting and facilitating ERA-networking between European Contract Research Organisations (C.R.O.)' (Cronet-DAYS) sought to achieve this in different ways. Primarily, it enhanced creation of research, development and innovation projects in the ERA by bringing together CROs in the surface transport sector.

The project initiated EU-funded projects, established networks of excellence, increased technology transfer, and improved capabilities between the different surface transport modes. In 2005 it conducted a two-day surface transport meeting for research and technology organisations in the sector that discussed major EU projects and technology platforms.

The event, which was held in France, yielded over 500 one-to-one meetings as well, increasing networking at a tremendous rate. This required intensive preparation such as securing speakers from technology platforms, EU organisations and government officials, as well as producing printed materials and conducting marketing initiatives.

These intensive efforts ensured that the event was a success in enhancing networking opportunities and laying the groundwork for more seamless surface transport in the EU. Last but not least, the project outlined recommendations for future similar initiatives, ensuring the sustainability of networking in the sector and ultimately improving transport infrastructures.
