Towards intelligent administrative and decision support systems

An EU initiative developed a smart administrative system that can learn. It can capture, store, use and analyse information about an organisation's daily operation in order to help in the decision-making and knowledge-sharing process.
Towards intelligent administrative and decision support systems
The EU-funded SASD (Smart multipurpose knowledge administration environment for intelligent decision support systems development) project sought to put the developed technology into practice. It applied the systems in three separate contexts, including information technology (IT), project management for SMEs and an application for the internet mortgage market.

SASD's main results included the completion of a stand-alone system and case applications enabling the design and implementation of any intelligent system based on experience. A design platform developed at the University of Newcastle in the UK formed the basis for their design and development. Project partners validated the platform's main functionalities by conducting four test cases. They also developed a novel technique to collect experiences that constitutes a fundamental component of the design platform. A fifth case was also added that focused on the design of smart cities systems.

The test cases demonstrated that the developed administrative and decision-support systems will have broader applications, namely gathering medical research, making decisions on granting loans and managing IT projects.

Key results were presented at conferences. One thesis proposed the combining of platforms for models development. Another thesis is based on the agent system for the IT assessment. Yet another concerns the e-decisional community and the exchange of knowledge with an integrated knowledge-sharing platform.

The SASD team is deliberating on how to best put into operation the multi-purpose smart knowledge administration platform in countries and target market sectors interested in using intelligent systems.

SASD is doing its part to contribute to the age of the global economy by delivering administrative and intelligent decision-support systems that have the potential to significantly reduce business costs.
