Proximity sensor

A proximity sensor has been designed which can be installed on a stationary or mobile base. Its job is to detect the variation in the distance separating it from another object of sufficiently large radar cross section (RCS). The speeds of approach or separation can range from zero to 5.000 km/h, but for the lower velocities the detected object has to be cooperative. This is done by equipping it with a transponder. This unit can also measure the velocities with a precision of the order of 1%. Optionally, its functions can be extended to trajectory plotting within a sphere of a few tens of metres in diameter centred on the proximity sensor base.

The innovative aspects are: this system performs an interferometric interpretation of a spread spectrum signal, which greatly increases its resistance to jamming.
