EU-US SME partnering event
The European Commission, DG III, has recently published a call for expressions of interest to participate in a joint EU-US SME partnering event "TexSBI-Eurotex", to be held in Texas, USA, on 15 and 16 April 1999. The objective of the event is to encourage international cooperation between European and American SMEs, focusing on electronic commerce and multimedia technologies. The event intends to bring about 200 SMEs into contact with as many companies from the US. While participating companies will not receive direct funding, they will benefit from a wide range of support services, including: - Information on the US participating companies; - Logistics support for the organisation of meetings in the US; - Logistics support for the promotion of EU companies on the Internet; - Coaching on project results and product presentation and marketing in the US; - The possibility, for those SMEs involved in ongoing ESPRIT RTD projects, to charge for the cost of their participation, according to the rules defined in the corresponding contract. Other information technology related events will be held in conjunction with TexSBI-Eurotex, including round tables with senior industrialists, seminars and technical workshops. Although the topics for discussion have not yet been finalised, they are likely to include the open microprocessor initiative, application of information technologies in culture and the arts, digital libraries and intelligent manufacturing systems.
