Results of first call for proposals for FAIR programme: Fisheries and aquaculture
In December 1994, the European Commission published the first call for proposals under its specific RTD programme in the field of agriculture and fisheries (FAIR) (OJ No C 357 of 15.12.1994). Results of this call for proposals are now available for Area 5 of the FAIR work programme which covers projects in the area of fisheries and aquaculture. The total number of projects accepted for funding under this area is 24. These will be funded by DG XIV of the European Commission (Fisheries). They are divided among the various sub-sectors of Area 5 as follows (number of projects indicated in brackets): - Area 5.1: Impact of environmental factors on aquatic resources (4); - Area 5.2: Ecological impact of fisheries and aquaculture (10); - Area 5.3: Biology of species for optimization of aquaculture (7); - Area 5.4: Socio-economic aspects of the fishing industry (3); In addition, DG XIV will also be financing two fisheries projects accepted under Area 3.1 of the work programme (Consumer nutrition and well-being). The total funding to be allocated to these projects by DG XIV amounts to ECU 23.7 million.
