In order to support Europe's digital cultural heritage and provide effective access to its citizens, including professionals and business operators, OPENHERITAGE has created the OpenMuseum Base (OMB) technology. The system is a multi-modular solution based on market standards and open software tools that can represent museum collections and provide both local and remote access. Through the use of this system, museums can adopt an industrial standardised package that defines, structures and implements hardware and software. Furthermore, it utilises an array of facilities and applications needed to design an innovative user-friendly museum system with access and interaction functions. This includes a Welcome Terminal, a Video wall system, an Internet-based Booking Terminal, a main Multimedia Station, an Interactive 3D Station, a Digital Video terminal and a GIS Station. An additional feature is the Digital Library station that can be used to browse and analyse digital documents. With the OpenMuseum technology in place, the cultural heritage housed in all types of Memory Institutions could lead to development opportunities through management and promotion. Furthermore museums and ministries of cultural heritage across Europe would be able to interconnect.
