A new booklet on the INNOVATION programme's "Moderated Planning Workshops" has been published by the European Commission. The workshops have been used successfully by many INNOVATION projects in their start-up and definition phases. The booklet provides an insight into the technique of Moderated Planning Workshops as a technique to improve the effectiveness of transnational projects. It follows the leaflet "Building successful multi-partner projects", which has been very widely distributed. The workshop approach can be applied to help structure new projects, or to improve the effectiveness of existing partnerships, by focusing on objectives, goals and on consensus among the participants. The main feature of the approach is the use of an independent facilitator to guide and direct the work of the participants. Moderated Planning Workshops are just one of the techniques used by INNOVATION projects to improve project management. Other techniques used include intercultural tools, project management software and guidebooks.
