An information day on the Fifth Framework Programme's Information Society Technologies programme (IST), "Creating a user-friendly Information Society", will be organised by the European Commission in Paris, France, on 22 February 1999. The aim of the event is to encourage maximum interaction between potential projects proposers under the IST programme and Commission staff, and among the proposers themselves.

Key features will include:

- A short plenary session focusing on the contents of the first call for proposals;
- A description of the calendar of calls planned for 1999;
- Explanation of the basic call submission and proposal evaluation procedures;
- Information on relevant information sources.

The event will also feature an information fair, presenting an exhibition space filled with booths for each element of the 1999 work programme. These booths will be staffed by project officers from the Commission, and complementary booths for national contact points and other programmes within the Fifth RTD Framework Programme will also be provided. A booth providing information on the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS) will also be open to participants.
