The European Commission, DG XIII, has published the fifth and final issue of the synopses of projects supported within the EU's Libraries programme of the Third RTD Framework Programme (1990-1994). Libraries was one of the seven distinct areas covered by the specific RTD programme for telematics in areas of general interest. The synopses cover 13 selected projects from the first call for proposals issued in July 1991, 16 projects resulting from the second call for proposals of October 1992 and 22 from the third call launched in November 1993. In addition, the concerted actions for the Computerised Bibliographic Record Action (CoBRA), the European Copyright User Platform (ECUP) and the European Forum for Implementors of Library Actions (EFILA) are also described. The projects covered fall within the following action lines of the work programme: - International connection of systems; - Provision of new library systems using information and communication technologies; - Simulation of a European market in telematics products and services for libraries. Information provided on each of the projects includes the key issues identified, the technical approach adopted, the project deliverables and impact, as well as contact details for each of the project coordinators. Examples of the projects detailed include: - AIDA: Alternatives for international document availability; - BAMBI: Better access to manuscripts and browsing of images; - DALI: Document and library integration; - LIRN: Library information enquiry and referral network; - MOBILE: Extended European information access through mobile libraries; - OLUIT: Object oriented librarian user interface tool.
