The European Commission, DG VI, has published the third call for proposals under the Community programme on the conservation, characterization, collection and utilization of genetic resources in agriculture. The Commission is seeking proposals on genetic resources in agriculture which address point I of the work programme. The themes selected will be addressed by shared-cost projects or concerted actions. In the case of shared-cost projects, the Community contribution will not exceed 50% of the total costs, whilst in the case of concerted actions, the Community may fund up to 100% of the costs of coordination. The aim of the programme is to coordinate and promote the work carried out in the Community in the field of genetic resources in agriculture, whilst contributing to the aims of the common agricultural policy (CAP). Activities relating to all types of genetic resources, whether agricultural, horticultural or forestry, are eligible for support under this programme. Special emphasis will be placed on proposals addressing genetic resources of farm animals, and concerted actions setting up Community-wide networks for coordinating actions already under way will be particularly welcomed. Each proposal must have a specific focus, concentrating on a single group of plants or animals. Priority will be given to species which are, or are expected to become, economically significant in the Community. Preference will be given to projects with a strong Community dimension, which address the risk of erosion, and which utilize the genetic resources for: - Diversifying agricultural production; - Improving product quality; - Improving environmental protection. The official proposal forms, and an information pack, may be obtained from: European Commission DG VI - Agriculture Directorate F.II 200 rue de la Loi (L-120 6/238) B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-2963029 E-mail: Richard.Hardwick@dg6.cec.be
