The European Commission, DG XIII, has published two separate but related calls for proposals for the implementation of the action plan for the introduction of advanced television services in Europe. The calls are of particular interest to broadcasters and audiovisual programme producers and concern two separate but related proposals: - For Community support for one or more wide-screen broadcasting services; - For Community support for programme production and conversion in the 16/9 format. Although the action plan covers both broadcast services and programme production and conversion, the two types of proposals are being assessed separately under different provisions of the action plan. Broadcasters wishing to apply for Community support for broadcast services and for support for programme production and conversion must make a separate proposal in respect of each call. Two further programme production calls will be published in the following 12 months. The next call for broadcast services will be published early in 1996. The Community resources available for the call for broadcast services will permit the funding of around 20,000 hours of services to be transmitted over the remaining life of the plan until 30 June 1997. The Commission service responsible for the management of the broadcast services call for proposals is Directorate-General XIII, Telecommunications, Information Markets and Exploitation of Research. The Commission service responsible for the management of the programme production and conversion call for proposals is Directorate-General X, Audiovisual, Information, Communication and Culture. An information meeting will be held on 22 February 1995 at the Albert Borschette Centre, 36 rue Froissart, B-1040 Brussels. There are two separate parts to this meeting. The morning session (10.30-13.00) will answer queries exclusively on the broadcasting part of the action plan. Issues relating to programme production and conversion funding will be addressed in the afternoon (14.00-17.30).
