Opis projektu
Broadband for all
In the context of increasing bandwidth, demands are going to both higher bit rate and to the convergence of telecommunication networks. Radio technology offers flexibility while optical fibre offers the required capacity. ISIS aims to strengthen European scientific and technological excellence in low cost optical solutions for broadband access merging wireless and photonic technologies. ISIS addresses broadband analogue and digital communication systems and the contribution from the optical technologies in the domain of micro/mm-wave photonics for future broadband hybrid wireless/optical access. Low-cost access and edge network equipment, service-enabling technologies and platforms and increased bandwidth capacity are addressed, with advanced wireless network technology exploiting the millimetre-wave bands. ISIS is intended to develop an infrastructure with the integration of a critical mass of researchers from 19 organisations, all are recognised specialists in the area, from 10 European countries and two others. This project will allow Europe to have a dominant position in this emerging field by integrating individual European excellence. The Joint Programme of Activities includes significant integrating activities with a joint use of infrastructures, mobility of researchers, and coordination of partners activities leading to specialisation. It includes also a joint technical research programme to develop joint research platforms and tools on broadband optoelectronic architectures and functions, broadband optoelectronic technologies, and optoelectronic broadband characterisation and test. Management of knowledge and activities to spread excellence are widely addressed : 6 workshops or seminars, 15 training courses and 3 summer schools are to be organised over the 3 year duration of the project. It will be orchestrated by a unified management structure composed of both industrial (4 invited and 4 internal) and academic representatives.
