Architecture, Function and Dynamics in Life Sciences

Project description

International doctoral programme in life sciences

The Arqus European University Alliance has established an outstanding international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral doctoral programme (DP) centred on Destination 5: Unlocking the full potential of new tools, technologies and digital solutions for a healthy society from the Horizon Europe Work Programme. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the ArchiFun project is being developed within the Arqus European University Alliance, with the goal of providing a shared, highly qualified training foundation for a new generation of researchers in life sciences. This initiative aims to equip them for academic, public or private career paths. The project will explore the relationships between architecture, function and dynamics across all levels, spanning from atoms to cells, organisms and ecosystems. The goal of this DP is to evolve into a successful pilot Pan-European Doctoral Programme.

Objective

Architecture function and Dynamics in Life Sciences (ArchiFun) is an international doctoral programme built within the Arqus European University Alliance. Its aim is to provide a common highly qualified training background to a new generation of researchers in Life Sciences, with a special focus on the relationships between structure, function and dynamics at all levels, from the atoms up to the cells, organisms and ecosystems.
ArchiFun DP research topics are related to “Destination 5: Unlocking the full potential of new tools, technologies and digital solutions for a healthy society” of the Horizon Europe Work Programme. ArchiFun will be a successful pilot Pan-European Doctoral Programme, which will implement the vision of the Arqus Alliance towards its completion in 2032. The University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 together with U. Granada, U. Padua, Vilnius U., the Technical U. of Munich and the National Institute of Chemistry of Ljubljana have set up an excellent international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectorial post-graduate programme. ArchiFun DP will gather excellent supervisors and excellent projects in Integrative Structural and Functional Biology, Biophysical, Biomedical and Life Sciences. ArchiFun will work in synergy with fundamental actors of the European Union other than universities, such as ESRF, the largest research infrastructure, a few components of MOSBRI (Molecular Scale Biophysics Research Infrastructure, a young EU project of medium-size research infrastructures), and 4 small/medium enterprises, which build the creative skeleton of EU.
The main objective of ArchiFun DP, as the first real EU DP, is to become a knowledge hub and train responsible new citizens of the world as well as future leaders, giving them the instruments and attitude to excel over and beyond Life Sciences, once back in their own countries or wherever else in the world, whether in academia, public or private sector of activities.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
