Bio-Nano European Infrastructure in AREA Science Park

Final Report Summary - BINASP (Bio-Nano European Infrastructure in AREA Science Park)

The objective of the 'Bio-nanotechnology European infrastructure in AREA science park' (BINASP) is to build-up a system of bio-nanotechnology research infrastructures and facilities in AREA Science Park (Trieste-Region Friuli Venezia Giulia-Italy). AREA Science Park is one of the leading European science & technology parks.

BINASP's infrastructures will consist of six newly established bio-nanotech related laboratories which are included in a more extended networked system of excellence research structures which are mainly concentrated in the AREA Science Park premises. Cornerstones of BINASP include:

- to promote innovative research in nanotechnology applied to biology and medicine, and develop advanced instrumentation;
- to develop collaborations with EU nanotech R&D centres, through the organisation of scientific meetings, joint research, projects, exchange programs;
- to develop high education programmes by the promotion of PhD, start-up grants and fellowships;
- to manage advanced instrumentation and laboratories for common research use, provide consultancy to fund raising and management for partners and others institutions;
- to set-up products, provide services and instruments useful to diagnostic and therapeutic purposes;
- to exploit the market value of the relevant research results.
