Objectif The mission of the European Forum on Agricultural Research for Development (EFARD) is to strengthen the contribution of European Agricultural Research for Development to poverty alleviation, food security, and sustainable development in developing countrie s. EFARD Conferences, which are held every three years, constitute the core element of EFARD?s activities by providing a platform for strategic dialogue among European stakeholder groups and promoting research partnerships between European and Southern res earch communities. Previous EFARD conferences were directed towards the identification of common research themes and interests at the European level. The forthcoming EFARD Conference, to be held in Zurich from 27-29 April 2005, will build on these experien ces and link them to the outcomes of the GFAR 2003 Conference in Dakar. The Conference objectives are in good agreement with the research priorities indicated in the Work Programme for Specific Measures in Support of International Co-operation and addresse s sections A2 (Rational use of natural resources) and A3 (Food security) of the INCO Specific Measures. The Conference will take particular account of the enlargement of the EU and of the consolidation of Regional research Fora in the South and East. Some 300 ? 500 participants, covering all stakeholder groups and including a large number of participants from the South and East, are expected to attend to the EFARD 2005 Conference.
