The MARVEL OUS Net provides an environment for the linkage of enterprises working in the maritime field. The main objectives are to support the participants by delivering the communication foundation to be used in the ongoing project work and the demonstration scenarios. The MARVEL OUS Net is a result of the MARVEL OUS Task 2 "Demonstration Support and Organisation". The role of this task within the project was to prove the feasibility of the approaches proposed for enterprise linkage on a prototype basis. The availability of support for the enabling technology and the co-ordination of conflicting approaches were also covered. This task carried out an analysis of the current state of information technology and defined feasible solutions to the user defined problems identified in the user requirements phase. Shelf technology was also enabled at the partners sites to allow them to participate in the scenarios. The goals and deliverables of task 2 were: -Implementation of the MARVEL OUS Network taking the requirements of the marine industry for virtual enterprise linkage into account. -Analysis of existing information technology supporting the business processes selected. -Definition of practicable solutions for the problems identified. -Demonstration of test cases for all work packages based on the business process chains defined. -A package comprising all demonstrations and the experience gained in the demonstration scenarios concerning enabling information technology. The main objectives were to support the partners by delivering the communication foundation to be used in both the ongoing project work and the demonstration scenarios. In an early project phase an investigation was performed to identify the state of network technology of the project's partners. Considering the results, the first MARVEL OUS Network was established by using the most widespread technology. Additionally a World Wide Web site was made available in this phase: -for the presentation of the MARVEL OUS project, -to show the potential for using WWW in the virtual enterprise context, -and to support collaboration within MARVEL OUS.
