Doctoral Training in developmental cognitive Neuroscience within a European Context

Objectif

We will provide a structured training programme based on the completion of individual research projects that gravitate around a common research agenda.

That agenda is to understand the neural basis of cognitive functions, and their typical and atypical development in the infant, child and adult brains through the combination of neuroimaging, computational modelling and behavioural testing.

We aim to understand typical and atypical developmental paths in infancy and childhood relative to cognitive functions in the adult brain, and also look for parallels between mechanisms of early cognitive development and the mechanisms underlying changes in brain function as a result of learning and plasticity later in life.

Early stage researchers will be hosted at the Centre for Brain and Cognitive Development (CBCD) Birkbeck College, University of London. The CBCD provides a uniquely European context for research both through the transeuropean origins of its members and its multiple research links with institutions across Europe (and especially new member states).

Early stage researchers will be expected to enrol in a 3-year doctoral training programme that seamlessly integrates 3 levels of support and training that includes short-term secondments to institutions across Europe, generic research skills training, and pastoral support.
