Strategic Conversation

Final Report Summary - STAC (Strategic Conversation)

STAC provides a new theory for the linguistic and computational analysis of dialogue, bringing together ideas from linguistics, philosophy, mathematics, computer science and economices. The theory is unlike any other extant approach and answers questions that extant theories cannot, such as: why people communicate when they have completely opposed interests, how do conversational moves get evaluated for success; what is a conversational goal and what are strategies for achieving them; does an agent have a winning strategy for achieving a given conversational goal; how does an agents' prior beliefs affect in detail his interpretation of a conversation. STAC also goes beyond the state of the art in the linguistic and computational analysis of the structure and content of multi party conversation and its interactions with its non linguistic context; and STAC provides new data that backs those analyses up.
