A quantum dot in a cavity: A solid state platform for quantum operations

Final Report Summary - QD-CQED (A quantum dot in a cavity: A solid state platform for quantum operations)

In the QD-CQED project, a solid-state platform was developed for quantum technologies. Artificial atoms in the form of semiconductor quantum dots have been coupled to optical microcavities, and decoherence mechanisms have been reduced to a minimum to obtain high quantum performances. A new generation of near-optimal single photon sources was developed, with efficiency exceeding by more than one order of magnitude that of the sources used so far in optical quantum technologies. Device demonstrating optical non-linearities at the very few photon scale have been developed, allowing to convert a classical light field in a highly quantum one, to map the quantum information from a single spin to light, or to manipulate a single quantum bit with few photons only. The obtained devices promise to significantly boost optical quantum technologies, offering the potential of integration and scalability.
