Objectif This project will develop an integrated interpretational framework for the archaeobotanical study of ancient economies by bringing together for the first time specialists in archaeological remains of crops and their weeds (provided by staff at the host organization) with specialists in other types of archaeologically recovered plant material - wood charcoal, waterlogged and charred plant tissues, silica phytoliths (provided by partner institutions).Through an integrated programme of seminars, workshops and laboratory based research the project will result in the production of research training packages for the dissemination of expertise in these specialisms through the host organization. This will enhance the research capability of the host institution by bringing in-house a suite of complementary knowledge and skills currently missing in the host department. Benefits of this TOK project will flow to the host team and department, to the future cohort of researchers will receive training there as well as the region through consultancy and outreach activities. This project mobilizes 4 fellows to cross national boundaries to undertake knowledge transfer activities within the host department. This TOK project comes at the optimum time for the Archaeobotany group as they are undergoing a period of expansion matched by an increasing demand for their skills, the arrival of the TOK fellows will have the effect of creating critical mass in the group facilitating maximum impact at the level of the European Research Area.
