Development and Innovation for Advanced Manufacturing of Thermoplastics (DINAMIT)

Objective

Today the High Performance thermoplastic composite parts are mainly used in aeronautical structures. Compared to thermoset resin systems, they have many advantages like impact behaviour, fire resistance, low moisture absorption, welding capabilities. Nevertheless, the material costs, and the global production costs remain generally high compared to thermoset composite technologies. They are furthermore generally restricted to simple geometry parts and limited dimensions, due to the current technological limitations.

The main objectives of the project are therefore to develop new thermoplastic processes for cost effective manufacture of high performance composite aeronautical parts. Different approaches will thus be investigated during this 3 year project:
* Elaboration of a new cost effective Material and Characterisation of new generation of thermoplastic resin and resin Fibre systems dedicated to enhanced thermoplastic processes.
* Development of new Thermoplastics forming-consolidation processes.
* Development of new welding processes for thermoplastic composite parts assembly.

Special attention will be paid to the cost effectiveness of the new materials, methods and tools resulting from the project. Specific metrics will be worked out and checked, using a dedicated tool, to evaluate the results and provide recommendations to turn them into cost beneficial applications.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
