European School of Neuroimmunology (EFNI); 4th Teaching Course - Barcelona

Objectif

European School of Neuroimmunology (ESNI) represents a European frame work for a continuous educational programme in neuroimmunology. A major aim is to integrate post-genomics research including research on molecular mechanisms into more established neuroimmunological approaches. Another major aim is to link this basic and post-genomic research to causes, clinical manifestations, consequences and treatment of disease in the brain and the nervous system. The main factor in the educational programme is the yearly course covering all these aspects. Previous courses (Stockholm 2000, Paris 2001, Tampere 2002) have attracted approximately. 200 participants to each course. One half of participants have been doctors linked to clinical activity and one half has been scientists working in basic medicine. Average age for participants has been 30 years and there has been an equal number of males and females. The ESNI Scientific Board contains members from 17 European countries, 9 of them with female representation. The 4th ESNI course will take place Sept. 28th - Oct. 2st 2003 at the University Hospital, Barcelona. The main topics will be innate immunity and brain functions, neurodegeneration and immunoregulation, relevance of autoantibody research in neuroimmunology, and immunothérapies in neuroimmunology. The programme covers genetics and post-genetic topics, as well as treatment applications. Discussion groups between a few participants and a senior speaker will be organised. Proceedings from the course will be available for all participants. The aim is to attract about 200 promising young researchers in neuroscience from most European countries. Top European researchers have already been scheduled as speakers. The main expenses will be travel and lodging for speakers, chairmen and trainees from EU applicant countries and less wealthy research groups. The previous courses have got top grades from the participants' evaluation and have been...
