Final Activity Report Summary - MCF-MSAF (Doctoral research training at Manchester School of accounting and finance) The Marie Curie EST programme (project no: 504299, acronym: MCF-MSAF) at Manchester Business School (MBS) covers the period from September 20, 2004 to September 19, 2009. In total, 37 Marie Curie fellows representing 16 countries (Chile, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, and Sweden) were recruited. The proportion of researcher months allocated to member and associated states is 78%, and 68% of the researcher months went to female researchers. Among the 37 recruited fellows, 22 have received their PhD degrees. Another 14 are ready to submit or waiting for their VIVA examination. Five of the fellows are now assistant professor in universities in France, Denmark and Lithuania; with one of these five being hired by the host. Four fellows are now working as researchers at universities and banks in Europe; three and one fellows are employed by the host as postdoctoral and teaching fellows respectively. Two fellows are now working as consultant in the private sector.This project has led directly to at least eight publications in peer reviewed journals such as Structural Change and Economics Dynamics, Journal of Management and Governance, Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, European Financial Management, and the Journal of Empirical Finance. One particular piece of publication has aroused considerable amount of media interest in Finland and Russia. In addition to the published articles, the network researchers produced one book chapter, three monograph, 18 working papers and manuscripts, 6 articles have been submitted to peer-reviewed journals and are in the review process, and another 7 articles are in preparation. About half of these outputs have the Marie Curie fellows as the sole author. The area of research covered in Accounting and Finance was wide ranging strongly reflecting the diversity of research expertise in the Manchester Accounting and Finance Group at MBS.Research collaboration between Marie Curie fellows and MBS faculty members continues after the FP6 contract has ended. While still in the process of getting the results published, much of the research has already been presented by the fellows in the international conference circuit such as the Eastern Finance Association annual meeting and the European Finance Association meeting. The latter is particularly prestigious as it is well known to have a very high rejection rate. Two fellows were selected, among 300 young researchers worldwide, to participate at the 3rd Meeting of the Winners of the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in Lindau taking place from August 20th to 23rd, 2008. Apart from the great networking opportunity, the fellows felt a great honour in taking part in this inspirational event where participants had an opportunity to interact with Nobel laureates.All fellows have widened their research experience during their stay at Manchester Business School (MBS) and benefited from exceptional research training provisions, access to rich library and data resources and interactions with senior internationally renowned academic researchers at MBS. Many fellows have completed or presented their research findings at research seminars and international conferences. The host has been able to make a large amount of investment in providing the Marie Curie Fellows support for data, overseas conference travel and participation at the Nobel Laureate Meeting at Lindau, Germany.
