Technology Transfer Fellowships

Final Report Summary - TTF (Technology Transfer Fellowships)

The fellowships TTF scheme (aka BEWARE Academia) offered a total of 62 18-to-36 months fellowships to highly skilled researchers to perform a research stay in a Belgian French-speaking university, in close co-operation with a Walloon industrial/commercial private partner. The project was running on a 5 years period.

Eligible researchers covered all nationalities that have at least 4 years of research experience or a PhD. They had to comply with a clear mobility rule: having spent less than 12 out of the last 36 months in Belgium before the submission (international mobility rules according to the European Commission).

All research fields were eligible (“bottom-up approach”), as long as a potential industrial/commercial added value can be demonstrated.

The researcher was able to choose to perform his / her stay in one of our 5 eligible universities:

• Université libre de Bruxelles / “Free University of Brussels” (ULB)
• Université de Liège / “University of Liège” (ULiège)
• Université catholique de Louvain / “Catholic University of Leuven” (UCLouvain)
• Université de Mons / “University of Mons” (UMons)
• Université de Namur / “University of Namur” (UNamur)

A quarter of his / her stay had to be spent on the premises of a private partner.

Researchers had two supervisors: one from the university, another from the private partner. Mentorship, training and supervision were important facets of this mobility scheme.

Objectives of the present programme were triple:

• offer to international researchers a high level research stay in a university unit and develop economic/innovation skills in an enterprise;
• enhance trans-sectoral collaboration and mobility;
• identify and valorise research results that have a potential economic impact.

The project was running on a 5 years period, allowing around 7 calls for proposals depending on available budget.

Finally, in December 2018, E&Y audited the programme and concluded that "the Financial management of the project was carried out in an acceptable manner in compliance with the requirements of the grant management".
