Scale-up of low-carbon footprint material recovery techniques in existing wastewater treatment plants

Report on the consolidated SMART-plant scenarios, market value of SMART-Product portfolio and finalized product applications

Based on the target portfolio of recovered resources the key applications for maximizing value are reported to guide strategy of future licensors and potential opportunities. All pillars: Construction, Additives, Construction and Intermediates, as described in Section 2 of the DoA, will be considered as final applications.

Scenarios for market introduction of SMARTechnologies and target SMART-Product portfolio

The report describes scenarios for SMART Plant adoption based on gaps of existing technological solutions for water utilities and based on opportunities provided by SMART. This report is the basis for the the target Product /Technology Portfolio for the future licensing business beyond the project timeframe.

Summary of publications and patent applications

The Deliverable consists in the list of articles and patent applications already published and the forthcoming publications related to SMART activities. The abstract of this deliverable will be published on the SMART website. INTERIM to the Coordinator at Month 23 - lead NTUA

Start-up, troubleshooting, operation and long-term validation report of the Downstream SMARTechs

Downstream SMARTechs report from the start-up to the long term validation which include the following 2 interim sections The interim 1, delivered to the coordinator at Month 30, will include: (1) technical and practical guidelines on the start-up and troubleshooting; (2) data trends and detailed mass balances (monthly or weekly basis). Input data for the activities of WP4 and WP5 will be included and commented as well. Lead: UBRUN The section 2, delivered at M39, include mass balances and performances more than 1 year operation of the Downstream SMARTechs; technological validation according to the ETV pilot program; detailed characterstics of the final recovered products. The report will even include definitive data supplied within the project for the activities of WP4 and WP5.

SMART Decision Support Tool for upgrading existing plants

Decision Support Tool for WWTP upgrading by SMARTechs: (i) key performance indicators, methodology and algorithms, (ii) results from the application DSS for the identification of the optimum SMART-Plant system integration options (iii) recommendations for identification of optimum strategies for implementation of resource recovery processes into existing WWTPs, (iv) final release, tutorial and operation manual that can be used by water utilities and decision makers INTERIM to the coordinator in Month 17 - lead UAB

Long-term validation and replicability study of the sidestream SMARTechs

The report will include mass balances and performances about 2 years operation of the sidestream SMARTechs; technological validation according to the ETV pilot program; evaluation of replicability in the other municipal WWTPs included in the SMART-Plant project. The report will even include definitive data supplied within the project for the activities of WP4 and WP5.

Long-term validation and replicability study of the mainstream SMARTechs

The report will include mass balances and performances about 2 years operation of the mainstream SMARTechs; technological validation according to the ETV pilot program; evaluation of replicability in the other municipal WWTPs included in the SMART-Plant project. The report will even include definitive data supplied within the project for the activities of WP4 and WP5.

Socio-economic assessment, incl. LCC and CBA reports

The report includes: (i) cost and social indicators, (ii) description and analysis of scenarios for SMART-Plant cost analysis, (iii) methodology for the cost benefit analysis as basis for the LCC approach, (iv) methodology, quantification process and CBA model for the social impact assessment of the SMART-Plant outcomes, (v) results on the application of the socio-economic impact assessment (cost and social constrains and benefits), (vi) results on surveys for public acceptance and the assessment of the market initiatives for the recovered products giving feedback to the exploitation strategy. (vii) The report on LCC results for relevant scenarios of SMART adoption, which will show economic benefits and payback times from an operator’s perspective.

Validation report and end use manual for the real-time energy consumption and carbon footprint monitoring for the SMARTechs

The report includes: (i) the methodology of the online monitoring tool for the determination of the carbon footprint and the energy efficiency of the seven the SMART plant systems, (ii) the operation manual for end-users: carbon footprint on-line monitoring, (iii) troubleshooting report after 1 year operation: carbon footprint on-line monitoring, (iv) the results from the application and validation of the real-time energy consumption and carbon footprint monitoring model for the mainstream and side stream SMART-Plant processes, (v) comparison of the tool’s results with the respecive ones obtained for conventional processes, (vi) target mitigations measures and suitable options for the erductions GHG emissions in the SMART-Plant systems. The final report on the real time GHGs on-line monitoring system can be used by water utilities. INTERIM to the COORDINATOR at Month 17 - lead UBRUN

Dissemination and Communication plan

The Dissemination and Communication Plan has the purpose to guide Communication and Dissemination initiatives taking place in parallel at different levels and is strongly tied up with the Data Management Plan. The Dissemination and Communication Plan will be regularly reviewed and updated if needed, upon input of the Coordinator or of the Strategic Committee.

Environmental Impact report, incl. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Report on (i) LCA methodology, analysis of scenarios, environmental indicators, (ii) LCA results of individual processes and integrated concepts, quantifying environmental impacts and benefits with a selection of environmental indicators, (iii) predicted results of environmental impact for relevant scenarios in the perspective of SMART adoption by target water utilities groups.

SMART conference

The SMART Conference is meant to include both technical contribution and marketing promotion of the technology before commercialisation. It will give wide visibility to the project achievements at water utilities and chemical industries, setting the basis for the forthcoming licencing business beyond the project.

Marketing campaigns support material

Communication material targeted to key stakeholders and end users (target licensors) to promote SMART and its approach application development for recovered resources in the perspective of adoption of SMARTechs by target licensors at industrial scale. INTERIM to the Coordinator at Month 42 - lead KWB

SMART-Plant identity release

This deliverable consist in the publication with full accessibility of the SMART-Plant Website, with basic content to give visibility to the approach, and also the publication of final protected SMART-Plant logo. The SMART-Plant Website will be subsequently updated as indicated in the Dissemination and Communication Plan.

Construction and commissioning of the mainstream SMARTechs

The report will include: (1) pictures in-situ of the installed SMARTechs; (2) evidences and practical instructions learnt from the commissioning phase
