Issue Paper on “Energy demand and supply in buildings and the role for RES market integration”

The outcomes of the case study “Energy demand and supply in buildings and the role for RES market integration” are summarised in this brief issue paper. This paper should serve as input to the discussion process and it should be critically reflected at stakeholder workshops. The paper will focus on main results of the case study and will only include a short overview on methodological aspects. This deliverable is associated with task 5.2.

Issue Paper on “Macroeconomic Consequences of sustainable energy sector innovation”

The aim of this deliverable is to present to the stakeholder and policy makers in a comprehensive way the results of the different scenarios implemented in the different macroeconomic models. This deliverable is associated with task 8.2.

Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap – 1st edition

The Dissemination and Exploitation roadmap will ensure stakeholder engagement, an intended flow of information, production and diffusion of dissemination material, publication of journal articles, web-site material, presentations etc., intended communication programmes (e.g. organised briefings, presentations at international conferences etc.), clear predefinition of events, and a clear time-scheduling of implementation of activities. This deliverable is associated with task 11.1.

Issue Paper on “Projects of Common Interest (PCI) and gas producers pricing strategy”

This document will present the main ideas that structure the scenario and some preliminary results. It will be open for discussion. This deliverable is associated with task 6.3.

Main Dimensions of Dissemination and Exploitation Activities

The report will describe an initial dissemination and exploitation strategy to be followed in order to promote the project activities and outcomes. It will be refined and communicated to all project partners. Regular corrective actions that will take place will be analyzed in order to assure appropriate communication, exploitation and targeted dissemination. This deliverable is associated with task 11.1.

Conclusions from the Final Conference

The report will present the acquired knowledge, policy implications and recommendations within the project duration, as well as the key message from the relevant discussion with top-level keynote speakers and other experts. It will also include the agenda, list of participants and minutes of the Final Conference. This deliverable is associated with task 11.4.

Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap – 2nd edition

The 2nd version of the Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap will include all the updated information regarding the dissemination activities implemented from M9 to M18. The constant updates in the structure and content of the SET-Nav website will be also tracked. This deliverable is associated with task 11.1.

Report on “Enhancing modelling capabilities: findings from the modelling seminars and the model extensions undertaken.”

This report will give an overview on the five workshop activities, summarizing main issues raised and lessons learned. It will be explicit on the methodological model extensions that have been enabled through the workshops. It will include suggestion on how future workshop on enhancing modelling capacities should be designed. This deliverable is associated with task 10.2.

Case Study Report on “Diffusion rate of renewable electricity generation”

This case study report is build upon the issue paper and will include an in depth representation of the modelling approach and a detailed representation of the final results. (Planned Length 40 Pages) This deliverable is associated with task 7.3.

Issue Paper on “Perspectives for nuclear power – a closer look at cost developments”

This issue paper will analyse the perspectives of nuclear power based on an extensive literature research. (Planned Length 10-20 Pages) This deliverable is associated with task 7.5.

Section of SET-Plan pathways assessment report (D9.3) using an innovation systems perspective to interpret modelling analysis

This deliverable forms part of the synthesis report on SET-Plan transformation pathways by providing specific insights and interpretations of modelling analysis from an innovation system perspective. This deliverable is associated with tasks 3.1 and 3.2.

Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap – 3rd edition

The 3rd version of the Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap includes the updated strategy of an affective diffusion of SET-Nav results among the target groups from M18 to M27. This deliverable is associated with task 11.1.

SET-Nav Policy Briefs – 1st edition

The 1st edition of SET-Nav Policy Briefs will include insights on modelling of risk & uncertainty with regard to infrastructure and system stability. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

Case Study Report on “Scenarios of the global fossil fuel markets”

This report documents the activities, applied methods, data and results of the case study “Scenarios of the global fossil fuel markets”. It will be more elaborated and detailed than the related Issue Paper D5.4 and it will take into account the discussions and feedback from stakeholder workshops. This deliverable is associated with tasks 4.1 and 4.3.

Final Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap

The final Dissemination and Exploitation Roadmap will collect and assess together the activities regarding the information, production and diffusion of dissemination material within the project duration, demonstrating the effective stakeholder engagement that took place through the dissemination and exploitation activities. It will also assess the whole dissemination and communication process and will propose exploitation activities so as to exploit project outcomes also after its completion. This deliverable is associated with task 11.1.

Summary Report: “Energy Systems: Infrastructure”

This final report will summarize the findings of the work package. It will review the infrastructure needs (power, gas and CCS) of the case studies on “Decentralised vs. centralised development of the electricity sector Impact on the transmission grid”, “Projects of Common Interest (PCI) and gas producers pricing strategy” and “Role for Carbon Capture, Transport and Storage in the Future Energy Mix”. It will quantify the need for infrastructure in these scenarios, as well as the interrelationships among these different infrastructure networks. This deliverable is associated with tasks 6.1-6.5.

Summary Report: “Energy Systems: Supply Perspective” documenting work package activities and the methodological approaches and interlinkages for all supply models

This Summary Report will provide a comprehensive picture of the activities in this work package, including insights which have been created after the finalisation of the other deliverables. (Planned Length 100 Pages) This deliverable is associated with tasks 7.1-7.6.

Initial SET-Nav Information and Communication Packs

The report will report all the dissemination material produced (in printed or electronic version), in order support an effective dissemination strategy, such as logo leaflet/ flyer, presentation, Poster, newsletters, social networks. This deliverable is associated with tasks 11.1-11.3.

Short policy briefing note on key insights for innovation policy based on innovation systems literature

This deliverable will draw on literature and expert interviews to synthesise key insights from the innovation systems literature for modelling and analysing the SET-Plan. This deliverable is associated with task 3.1.

Final methodological working paper for the work package. This document will present the methodological approaches, interlinkages and the key data sources for all infrastructure models and interfaces to other WPs

It will present these issues with enough detail so that the methods are clearly presented. This deliverable is associated with task 6.1.

Case Study Report on “Role for Carbon Capture, Transport and Storage in the Future Energy Mix”

This document will present the case study in detail, as well as the infrastructure needs of this scenario, specifically in terms of CCS network infrastructure. This deliverable is associated with task 6.4.

Summary of key findings from the case studies

Synthesis and summary report with key findings from the individual case studies in an integrated way offering broader interesting insights. This deliverable is associated with task 9.1.

This working paper will provide a first draft overview on the interlinkages and interfaces of the modelling framework. (Planned Length 10-20 Pages) This deliverable is associated with task 7.1.

Summary Report “Energy Systems: Demand Perspective” documenting work package activities and the methodological approaches and interlinkages for all demand models

"This report summarizes the research activities in the work package ""Energy Systems: Demand perspective"". It will document the methodological approaches, interlinkages of demand models, used data sources and results. In particular, it will provide a summary of the three case study results and lessons learned. This deliverable is associated with tasks 5.1-5.5."

Issue Paper on “Unlocking unused flexibility and synergy in electric power and gas supply systems”

This issue paper will analyse the flexibility which can be provided by an optimised operation of electricity and gas supply systems. (Planned Length 20 Pages) This deliverable is associated with task 7.4.

Case Study Report on “Decentralised vs. centralised development of the electricity sector Impact on the transmission grid”

This document will present a comprehensive description of the case study and its main results. It will highlight the infrastructure needs of this scenario, specifically in terms of the power transmission grid. This deliverable is associated with task 6.2.

Final Report on Scientific Publications and Exchange

A final report will include all the scientific publications and articles that were published by SET-Nav partners within the project duration in several in journals and working paper series. Authors’ details, abstracts and other publication details will be included in the deliverable. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

SET-Nav Information and Communication Packs Update

All the updated dissemination and communication material designed and produced from M12 to M24 will be presented in the 2nd version of the SET-Nav Information and Communication Packs. This deliverable is associated with tasks 11.1-11.3.

Scientific Publications and Exchange – 1st version

Several scientific papers and articles focused on the project outcomes will be published in selected peer-reviewed journals and working paper series, ensuring that the project and its results will be made known to the specific interested parties and scientific target groups. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

The final Report on SET-Nav Policy Brief will include a summary of main policy recommendations arisen from project implementation. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

SET-Nav Online Database (final)

Interactive and web-based database to share and pathways analysis results. Comprehensive and transparent summary of case study outcomes and transformation pathways. This deliverable is associated with task 9.4.

SET-Nav Website

The deliverable refers to the implementation of the SET-Nav official website in M3. It includes the development of a user friendly and easy to navigate environment, a structure dedicated to the project activities, material and results obtained, including among others, SET-Nav news and events, dissemination material, virtual library, contact details, etc. This deliverable is associated with task 11.2.

Third workshop: “Aggregating load profiles from the power sector models towards use in large-scale energy-system and integrated assessment models”, hosted by Universidad Pontifica de Comillas, Madrid

SET Nav Kick-Off Event (Issue Paper and Proceedings)

To kick off the stakeholder dialogue, an opening workshop will be organised. This half-day event will be used to introduce the project and the planned activities to a targeted audience: This aims to awake interest among the targeted audience right from the beginning and to give interested actors the unique opportunity to bring in their views and guide the analytical processes within this project. Moreover, pathways and concrete research questions will be proposed by the consortium in order to receive in-depth feedback by stakeholders. To this end, an issue paper will be prepared and circulated to all speakers, commentators and other workshop at least five working days before each meeting. An Issue Paper and Proceedings will be provided for this workshop in the same month. This deliverable is associated with task 2.2.

EMP-E Conference - 'Modelling Clean Energy Pathways'

The Energy Modelling Platform for Europe (EMP-E) culminates in a yearly conference, bringing together scientists and policy makers to discuss cutting edge energy modelling issues. Stakeholders are provided with a peer-reviewed digest of model and policy insights for European energy scenario. The platform serves as a continuous forum for exchanging research, development and practice of energy system modelling in Europe and, where feasible, promote the sharing of data and resources. It thus shall increase the efficiency, integrity and access to European energy modelling data, scenarios, tools and results. The agenda of this year’s meeting of the Energy Modelling Platform includes three plenary sessions with key themes to be highlighted being ‘modelling of behavioural aspects’, ‘integrated modelling of energy and resource efficiency’ as well as ‘innovation in the energy transition’. Thanks to the active involvement of EC representatives and leading researchers, we can ensure to bridge the gap between modelling and policy making at European, regional and local level.

First workshop: “Top-down bottom-up hybrid modelling”, hosted by NTNU Trondheim (Issue Paper, Proceedings and Discussion Paper)

"Topical workshop on “Centralised vs. decentralised electricity supply"" (Issue Paper and Proceedings)"

Decentralised electricity generation is currently driven by low-cost solar. Low-cost storage might accelerate this trend. In the context of this issue paper and the workshop planned, we will compare the costs of centralised vs. decentralised electricity supply in view of the upcoming cost reductions for solar and storage. This deliverable is associated with task 2.5.

Topical workshop on “Ways to a cleaner and smarter transport sector” (Issue Paper and Proceedings)

Decarbonising the transport sector could involve the use of biofuels or electrification. The latter option could also provide flexible to demand to the power sector. In the context of this workshop and the accompanying issue paper, we will compare the various options. This deliverable is associated with task 2.3.

Final policy workshop (Issue Paper and Proceedings)

The final policy workshop aims at disseminating the most important results from the project to interested stakeholders, policy makers and the public. This deliverable is associated with task 2.6.

Fifth workshop (topic to be decided during the first year of project, as found necessary or relevant during model integration and/or case studies), hosted by TU Wien

The workshop will be accompanied by the following deliverables: “Issue paper”: brief overview of state of the art of the theme, to be made available at the workshops; “Proceedings”: brief overview of lessons learnt at the workshops; One discussion paper or a collection of discussion papers related to the specific workshop topic; if a theme permits to collect a series of discussion papers by the workshop participants, they will be submitted as Special Issue/Special Section to a field journal (e.g. The Energy Journal, Energy Policy). Regional Workshops in Budapest (and Proceedings)

Organization, dissemination and successful implementation of the Regional Workshop in Budapest that will be held in M34 to disseminate and discuss results of the SET-Nav project on a regional level. Proceedings: The report will include the agenda, list of participants and minutes of the Regional Workshops in Budapest in order to deliver the key outcomes of the workshop. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

Second workshop: “Modelling of risk & uncertainty with regard to infrastructure and system stability”, hosted by ETH Zürich (Issue Paper, Proceedings and Discussion Paper)

Organization, dissemination and successful implementation of the Regional Workshop in Athens that will be held in M32 to disseminate and discuss results of the SET-Nav project on a regional level. Proceedings: The report will include the agenda, list of participants and minutes of the Regional Workshops in Athens in order to diffuse the highlight of the workshop. This deliverable is associated with task 11.3.

Topical workshop on “Projects of Common Interest and gas producers pricing strategy” (Issue Paper and Proceedings)

Completing the internal market for natural gas will require the deployment of new infrastructure, especially in Central-East and South-East Europe. This will also reduce the dependency from single gas supply routes and therefore help to improve the price formation. The workshop and the accompanying issue paper will explore possible ways forward and analyse their impact. This deliverable is associated with task 2.4.
