Objective It is planned to mix ferrous, fine-grained blast-furnace sludges and dusts with fine-grained coal and to process them into green pellets. These green pellets will be directly reduced to sponge iron in a rotating hearth furnace. The advantage of this method lies in the short reduction time (approx. 20 minutes) and in the infinitely adjustable carbon content in the sponge iron. The research is also of considerable ecological interest.
