Optimization of energy consumption of three-phase electric arc furnaces using plant signals and thermal modelling

Objective

The major objective of this research project is to develop a control algorithm to optimise the input of electrical energy to the three-phase electric arc furnace (EAF). This algorithm will use plant data signals, which will be collected and analysed in real time. The control algorithm will be derived from a thermal model of the furnace, from analysing extended data of the furnace and from process knowledge of EAF operators. Results are expected to be applicable to any three-phase electric arc furnace equipped with modern electrode regulators.
