The use of ESCA analysis to measure changes in surface chemi stry which occur during weathering of organic coil coatings

Objective

The weathering of coil coatings produces chemical changes in the organic coatings which ultimately manifest themselves as degradation and changes in the physical properties of the coating. At present, durability testing of organic coatings is a lengthy process since it is based on measuring changes in the physical properties of the coatings in natural environments. The purpose of the proposal is to undertake a systematic and comprehensive ESCA (Electron Spectroscopy Chemical analysis) study on the weathering characteristics of commercial coil coated products.
