Development of a bismuth austenitic stainless steel

Objective

It is planned to use bismuth as a substitute for sulpur, selenium or lead, to improve the machinability of austenitic stainless steel, while maintaining corrosion resistance, hot workability and neutrality (food industry). The selection of the best Bi+S range will result from laboratory heats. Bars and wire rods manufactured from industrial heats will be tested in the as-rolled and cold drawn conditions.
