Objective The aim of this project is to develop pretreatment technologies for steel surfaces, which are specifically designed for adhesives. Commercially available "paint" pretreatment systems will be studied and novel chemistries will be developed for promoting bond strength and durability of adhesives. Environmental concerns will be respected and the work should also improve coating quality and extend bath efficiency and life using selective elemental extraction.
