Improvement of working conditions during cyclical exposure to sources of radiant heat

Objective

Aims of the research:

To improve the working conditions of workers exposed to sources of radiant heat for short but regular periods and to reduce the risk of accidents involving burns.

The study is to be carried out at the Usines Gustave Boel in La Louviere. The four locations under study are the coke ovens, the cooling ramp, the ALDAC steel mills and the continuous wire mill (FIBO).

The workers concerned have to get very close to sources of radiant heat and come into direct contact with the hot products, which involves not only the physiological effects inherent to heat but also a not insignificant risk of burns.

In addition, seasonal effects (hot or cold time of year) may make working conditions worse.
