Implementation of combined DDLS and Mod3D experimentA functional Mod3DDDLS setup for polarized and depolarized dynamic light scattering experiments with transparent and turbid samples will be implemented at ULUND and test measurements on model systems will have been successfully performed
Description of soft matter meta-data standardThis report will describe the data format to be applied to all data acquired under EUSMI with the aim to be used in the EUSMI data repository and to develop a gerenal standard for data storage in soft matter science

Combination of SANS with in-situ rheologyWhile static SANS measurements aim at the steady state of a rheology experiment real time SANS with insitu rheology will resolve the different states that occur for instance with oscillatory shear This will be achieved by employing conventional stroboscopic SANS as well as by attempting to take into account neutron flight times for faster oscillations TISANE At this point real time SANS combined with insitu rheology will be in place

Set of optimized protocols for the synthesis of ultrasmall plasmonic particles with a variety of shapes (cube, rod, plate), sizes (5 - 20 nm) and surface chemistry (prepolymers)We will have developed a set of protocols for the synthesis of metal nanoparticles which support surface plasmons these are mainly gold and silver nanoparticles We will have access to a variety of shapes such as cubes rods and platelets with variable dimensions to enable tuning of the plasmon resonance absorption bands Furthermore the particles can be functionalized with molecules to enhance their compatibility with the prepolymer building blocks or to engage in their supramolecular binding events
EUMSI communication planThis deliverable will consist of an inventory of dissemination outreach training and education activities to which EUSMI will contribute either by active participation co organisation or financial support The objective of this plan is to enhance the visibility of EUSMI and attract more participants and potential users

Polyelectrolyte microgels of different crosslinking degree and sizeMicrogels with charged moieties will have been prepared Different crosslink densities and uniform sizes are accessible through synthetic adjustments different charge densities will allow for tunable swelling and colloidal stability These polyelectrolyte microgels exhibit distinct responses to pH and salinity and can be used in conjunction with supramolecular motifs for enhanced and directed interactions
Roadmap to sustainabilityThis deliverable will report on a plan to ensure sustainable access to soft matter infrastructure beyound the duration of EUSMI

Benchmark of the functioning of the high frequency deviceThis deliverable will consist of a report describing the performance of a high frequency rheometer with frequencies in the range of 100 to minimum 3000 Hz The performance will be compared to standard rotational rheometers for fluids comparable to NIst standard SRM2491 so potential users can evaluate the performance
Benchmark of a counter rotating rheometer onto a high speed confocal microscopeThis deliverable will consist of a report where the performance of the counterroating rheometer is evaluted both in terms of the rheological measurements as well as the possibilities for high speed imaging model colloidal suspensions will be used to evaluate the performance of both the optics and the mechanics
Initial EUSMI plan for dissemination and exploitation of results (PDR)This deliverable will report on the first issue of the EUSMI plan for the dissemination and the commercial exploitation of outcome resulting from the EUSMI TNA and JRA activities

Set of optimized protocols of biocompatible composites and hydrogels with switchable propertiesWe will have developed preparative protocols where composite hydrogels are prepared from water soluble prepolymers with metal nanoparticles These biocompatible hydrogels are based on supramolecular crosslinks which can be switched via external stimuli For example the photothermal effect of plasmonic nanoparticles can be used to heat composite microgels from within This leads to compression of the gel or breakage of the supramolecular binding events Other external triggers such as pH and salinity will have been fully characterized
EUSMI advertising materialSeveral advertising documents will be generated as marketing material These documents will consist of hard copies ie brochures posters leaflets which will be handed out on conferences courses fairtrades largescale facilities andor sent by conventional mail to potential users and online material which will be sent via email to academic and industrial users as well as posted on the EUSMI web page
Benchmark of functioning of the novel tools for advanced rheologyThis deliverable will consist of a report where the operating limits of the tools for advanced rotational rheometry cone partitioned geometries anti slip geometries and the geometry fo high temperature orthogonal superposition are reported to potential users

Solid-state NMR methods for the selective observation of interfaces in soft matterThis deliverable will consist of a report with at least one NMR spectrum allowing the selective observation of an interface in soft matter The sensitivity gain and resolution improvement provided by high magnetic fields 18 T will be assessed
Implementation of 3D characterization by advanced electron tomographyThe implementation of a new tomographic tilt series for bright field transmission electron microscopy TEM and the development of novel reconstruction and segmentation procedures will be reported
Internal test of EUSMI Distributed Repository and final report detailing data archival planThis report will describe in details the EUSMI Distributed Repository its data services and the all the testing procedures done with selected users It will also provide a clear plan for data archival
In this report we will outline the planned data management activities which will be implemented in colaboration with WP 10
The prototype is an evolution of the Data repository that will now features online services for dataanalysis for EUSMI users On such prototype an initial set of tools for data analysis and interpretation collected and indicated by EUSMI partners will be made available to EUSMI users
Second release of DRP, available with integration of pilot existing research data repositoriesThe second release of the prototype will include some pilot existing research data repository within the EUSMI and provides services for dataset registration validation and organization EUSMI partners will contribute to the development of a testing strategy shared among all JRAs participants
First release of DRP integrated in the EUSMI portal to enable users to register and access/upload some data typesThis deliverable will be the first prototype of data repository for software development and will be implemented at CNR Evaluation of distributed services provided by EU projects like EUDAT will be done The prototype will be integrated in the EUSMI portal in order to provide a seamless way to users to link scientific data to a given user project
DRP fully deployedThe final realese of the prototype will include further components for dataset registration validation and organization It will also include preservation services with regular checks for data and metadata integrity Integration into the overall Consortium software landscape and high acceptance will be achieved by developing effective interface components to the existing systems
Through the EUSMI online proposal system the entire transnational access process from proposal submission through reviewing to user reporting will be organized on a webbased plattform This system will be opreational in month 3 of the EUSMI duration
EUSMI video productionA summary of the activities performed in the first year within EUSMI will be reported in the format of a video The video will include among others interviews with both users and EUSMI partner responsibles how the industrial community is engaged in EUSMI via the industrial liaison and popular science explanations on the benefit of EUSMI for society
EUSMI web portal fully operationalThis deliverable will consist of a web portal providing the public with news and information about EUSMI and hosting the online proposal system which will allow both academic and industrial users to easily access the EUSMI infrastructure The web portal will have clear distinctive entries for academic and industrial users focusing on the needs of both communities to make their access to EUSMI as fast and smooth as possible
