Employment of a telework program for urban traffic decongestion

Objective

The project proposes to carry on a telework demonstration and evaluation of results as regards to the impact of telework in the increase of the quality of life and environmental benefits.

The project will involve the implementation of the telework methodologies and technologies within the local authority of the city of Rome in order to evaluate the impact of telework in the reduction of traffic in Rome.

The project is within the guidelines of the LIFE Programme for 1994 as well as the objectives set in the White Book of the European Union on: Growth, Competitiveness and Employment, in light that the project aims at the decentralisation of public institutions and the promotion and the deployment of telework.

The qualifications of the institutions participating to the project will also enable to feedback into the project the experiences of on-going similar projects across Europe related to the use of telework for traffic decongestion, such as the TELEURBA Project TSA1020 - DG XIII B/1, which looks after the implementation of telework in Madrid, London, Paris and the Randstad-Rotterdam-The Hague-Amsterdam/Utrech conurbation. As well as liason with the projects related to the use of advanced communications for the benefits of the environment such as CLEAN and ENVIRON.
