Integrated system for the centralized traffic control and administration

Objectif

The main objective is the improvement of urban mobility and the promotion of a more balanced division between public and private transport, in order to reduce traffic congestion, fuel consumption and atmospheric pollution.

A higher degree of efficiency of the public transport system will influence the choice of individuals to make more use of the system, which will in turn cause a positive evolution in mobility.

The proposal consists in the realisation of a pilot project, involving the installation of intelligent traffic lights in a restricted area of the city, and the installation of fixed and mobile traffic sensors distributed throughout the city. The latter will allow the creation of mathematical traffic models and the simulation of eventual variations in the traffic flows, in order to efficiently extend the intelligent traffic control and also to carry out optimal planning of city traffic.

In view of the proposed closure of the historic city centre to private non-resident traffic, an access control system will be realised with the aid of video cameras.

The solution proposed satisfies the objectives of repeatability and expandability, thus guaranteeing the protection of the investment, and flexibility and durability of the elements chosen.

The system will be commanded by a central processing unit connected, via data transmission lines, to the peripheral control and sensor units.
