Objective Development of an integrated model for the management of medium sized rural areas, considering Nature conservation, environmental protection and socioeconomic revitalization. With the fulfilment of this aim, a model will exist which is applicable to other areas of the European Communities and which is a demonstration of the basic principles adopted. The model to be developed will integrate all the facets of the rural world: environment, agriculture, forestry, hunting, landscape, architecture, economics, sociology, tourism and engineering. Economic, energetic aesthetic and conservationist considerations will be continously integrated during the development of the model. In the end, different scenarios will be produced and will be evaluated according to these same considerations. The project is emminently one of application, uniting knowledge and research dispersed in the literature and in scientific organizations. In order to ground it in reality, the model will be applied to a specific area. Yet it will be applicable to a great number of areas in the Community with similar characteristics. The project will be developed in five stages: characterization of the specific area, compilation of information on the region, compilation of scientific knowledge, dissemination of knowledge. Special importance is given to the computer integration of the informaton and modelling, particularly with the use of a Geographic Information System.
