deMonstration of smArt and flExible solutions for a decarboniSed energy future in Mayotte and other European islAnds

Deliverables

Energy profiling of the follower islands' case studies and replicability scenarios construction

This deliverable will gather energy system data and information to develop a comprehensive energy profiling for the follower islands in collaboration with local partners. Island fact sheets will be created including information for the energy and economic system in the follower islands building on data templates and data processing routines developed for Mayotte.

Use-cases, Requirements and KPIs definition

Related to T11 Definition of the usecases and the resulting requirements of the demonstrators using the IEC 625592 template For each usecase the relevant and specific Key Performance Indicators KPI to be monitored during the project will also be defined

Costs and benefits of the energy transition for different local actors and under consideration of macro-economic effects

This report will describe the economic impacts of the islands‘ energy transition. The impact will be specified on three sequential layers, being the energy system level, stakeholder level and overall economy, which are assessed by energy system modeling, actor-suited cash flow analysis and net impact assessment respectively.

Evaluation of the environmental impact of each solution through LCA analysis

This report will describe the impact of the material and energy flows within the energy system along the life-cycle of the deployed components and consumed fuels. The report will consider different energy system scenarios to point out environmental hotspots and potential ecological improvements.

Report on solutions to provide virtual inertia to islands' grids

Report on solutions to provide virtual inertia to islands’ grids, establishing the island's future and current needs in specialized equipment in order to accept a great amout of renewable power without sensibly affecting the grid's quality.

Review and definition of innovative business models under consideration of the governance framework

Hive Power will explore innovative business models and tariffs schemes for local energy markets, incentivizing the use of RE production. The deliverable will be a report divided in two parts: an extensive literature research on innovative tariffs schemes from recent or ongoing research projects, and a critical selection of the best models to be tested.

Long-term energy assessments for islands

The report will include a detailed assessment for the Mayotte energy system development integrating model-based quantitative analysis and ensuring the active participation of local stakeholders. Through detailed scenario development with the E3-ISL model, the deliverable includes a synthesis of quantitative model-based projections to develop the medium and long-term energy and economic assessment of Mayotte assessing the impacts of energy transitions and exploring barriers and opportunities arising from the uptake of clean energy options.

Community activation and involvement monitoring report

Community members included in the process of the energy transition will be local authorities, local industry representatives, members of the educational institutions, representatives of civil society organisations and average community members themselves. Multi-sectoral coordination among all actors will be the role of a transitional board which establishes and maintains a feedback loop with the broader community. Community energy systems (CES) are established and their outputs with regard to the energy transition goals are documented.

Baseline community, market and ecosystem assessment

Through a mixedmethods approach with a combination of qualitative and quantitative assessment tools as well as a review of existing databases an overview of the communitys knowledge and attitudes towards various energy sources usage and reliance on energy consumption habits as well as market and ecosystem determinants will be presented

Detailed energy database for Mayotte

Related to T13 This deliverable will include a detailed database for Mayotte focusing on the current energy situation by collecting data and information on existing energy and electricity infrastructure energy demand and supply balancing and other ancillary service needs renewable energy potential power plants electricity grid shortterm and strategic energy planning cost of energy and electricity load seasonality economic InputOutput data environmental impacts weather conditions and social attitudes of the local population

Interoperability-by-design framework

Related to T14 Definition of the interoperabilitybydesign framework that will ensure the interoperability of the demonstrated solution It will include a stateoftheart of the relevant standards an analysis of the system architecture the definition of interoperability test requirements and the specification of interfaces

Report detailing the energy market framework and specific product design details

Report detailing the energy and flexibility market framework and product design details, specifically tailored towards geographical islands and taking their specific context into account. Different aspects of the energy and flexibility market design will be covered such as the energy trading principles, interaction schemes, remuneration principles, etc.

System architecture definition

Related to T12 Definition of the architecture of the demonstrators using the SGAM Smart Grid Architecture Model Both the generic architecture of the solution and the specific architectures of each usecase will be defined

Impact assessment and outline of best transition pathways

This report will describe the impact of the energy transition on target region and local population in Mayotte along nine impact category groups based on thematic priorities of the Sustainable Development Goals and reveal most suitable transition pathways. The findings are abstracted to generate a second output report, in which generally valid optimal transition pathways for various contexts and corresponding restrictions are formulated.

Project website in English

The website will be first produced in English and then translated to the different partner languages It will give users a good overview on the project objectives activities and expected results and include an internal storage for partners
