STUDY AND DEFINITION OF THE MACHINING WORKSTATION REFERENCE ARCHITECTURE

Objective

This Proposal aims at analysing and defining the Reference Architecture for the Machining Workstation (i.e. the Machine Tool with its production peripherals, like tool and part feed devices), in the light of the CEDAM initiative, promoted by CEC -DGXII.

The approach is to identify the basic functional modules (i.e. the components with their own control functionalities and with all the features needed to perform their specific function) from which the Machining Workstation can be composed out and to define a proper control architecture on the basis of these modules.

This study will be carried out by a large and qualified consortium, including Machine Tool manufacturers, Research Institutes and end-users: therefore, even if the target application scenario of the Proposal is focused on T-type and Floor- type machine tools, the pre-normative impact of the expected results will be high.

This Proposal, together with the complementary one on the Enabling Technologies, would prepare the realization, within 4 years from now, of the first CEDAM prototype.
