Obiettivo The proposed additional project is aimed to improvement of Lidar measurement techniques for discrimination of Polar stratospheric clouds and volcanic aerosols by means of applying special advanced Digital Signal Processing (DSP) methods and algorithms based on Irregularized Signal Processing theory developed by the proposers. The suggested methods for signal analysis are unique in the sense that they provide elimination of aliases and the secondary negative effects allowing to process signals containing components at frequencies extending far beyond the Nyquist limit (half of the mean sampling rate). Basic relationships describing Lidar measurement physical processes and particle microphysical parameter relations to the backscattered laser signal waveforms will be analyzed and specialized DSP algorithms for analyzing irregularly encoded laser signals, specifically, for signal detection, their parameter estimation, digital filtering, correlation and spectral analysis as well as algorithms for reconstruction of signals from their irregularly spaced sample values will be developed. Due to specifics of the backscattered laser signals and their irregularized sampling, analysis of such signals should be based on unorthogonal rather than on orthogonal transforms. Problems of high resolution spectral analysis of such signals will be studied and resolution as well as accuracy improvement in time and frequency domains will be achieved. Demonstrable specialized DSP and special data analysis pilot microprocessor subsystem will be developed, manufactured and tested. Software for the Lidar measurement data analysis subsystem will be optimized.
