Modern machining technologies and production techniques in the European subcontracting industry

Obiettivo

In order to improve the competitive position of the metal and plastic machining SME's in the European supply industry this project deals with modern machining technologies in the field of high speed cutting, using modern cutting materials and tool geometry. Dimensional accuracy, surface roughness and allowable machining speed material structure will be investigated.
Optimum parameters for screw threads forming in high-alloy steels have been determined. Tool lifetime tests have been conducted. A comparison between the tapping and the forming of internal screw thread in high-alloy steels was made.
The concept of a milling chips centrifuge and its components have been further detailed and calculated.
A prototype machine was built for the testing of results obtained in the mechanical alignment of circular saw blades.
A mechanical and automated assembly method of a rack gear was developed.
Design calculations have been made for the development of a zero-tolerance gear rack driving assembly , a solution for tensioning of the gear wheels has been chosen and the first prototype has been tested and evaluated.
The prototype high-frequency aluminium milling units have been upgraded to meet the requirements and the unit is now commercially available.
The known and foreseen customer demands have been analysed and a package of requirements has been drawn up.
Machines have been developed that combine both turning and milling capabilities and these new developments will enable further reduction in production lead times by eliminating the transfer of products from one machine to another.
For cost reduction by efficiency improvement in SME production, a software linkage was developed between a production control package and a calculation package.
For implementing modern supply strategy in machining SMEs, a specific quality management handbook is now available.
Besides environmental and health aspects by reducing the use of cooling agents, the need for degresing and cleaning operations will be minimized, so that a further reduction of production cost will be achieved. Modern supply strategy by introducing quality management in the machining SME's will contribute to improve the efficiency. Machine planning and control in SME's can be improved by the introduction of a tool data system that can run on a PC. Besides software, various optimized and standardized clamping tools will be introduced to minimize set up and machining times.

By handling research items, initiated by the participating SME's, a wide supporting attitude can be expected for integral optimization of European machining SME's. Searching for individual solutions and coaching by selected R&D-performers will guarantee an optimal know-how transfer to SME's. In workshops that will be developed, the items chosen by the proposers will be highlighted and be placed in the integral strategy to improve the position with regard to non Ec-competitors
