Objective Aim is to demonstrate a recuperative multi-stage heat pump for drying air in the food industry. The plant comprises an air handling system for 27 sugar coating machines. In normal operation, used drying air is exhausted to the atmosphere as it is contaminated with sugar dust and odours. In this project the drying air is recirculated. The used air is washed in a turbine washer and then cooled in 3 stages to 1.5 deg. C. After this the air is heated in 4 stages using refrigerant heat and condenser heat. The cop of the cooling stages is 7.6. The system avoids odour and dust emission problems. The air turbine washer and energy recuperation system are innovatory. Energy saving will be 1146 toe/y (natural gas).
