Objectif
The Earth's population is facing an increasing demand for electrical power. After the Kyoto meeting that gave clear signals of reductions in the CO2 emission to the atmosphere, it is clear that new alternative sources of power must be considered to meet those needs. In this context it has been focused on possibilities for increasing utilization of using renewable wind energy from windmills. In planning for windmill installations it is of fundamental importance to have sufficient data of wind characteristics for different weather situations. Standard wind measurements are very local and will not properly resolve spatial variations in the wind field and it is generally difficult to estimate wind conditions at a nearby site. The proposed WEMSAR tool will satellite SAR, altimeter and scatter meter data in combination with mesocale and micrositing models for spatial information on wind energy for optimal windmill sitting.
