Objective The project aims at developing an adaptive decision support system (ADSS) for use by stakeholders involved in urban storm water management where decisions are made on many scales reflecting the spatial topology of urban catchments and the dynamic nature of urban development. The ADSS is a combination of simulation models, assessment tools, databases, guidance documents, road maps etc. Part of the research focuses on the functional behaviour of structural and non-structural best management practices (BMPs). Models will be developed for simulating pollution fluxes and assessing their possible source-elimination and fate in structural BMPs, and procedures for environmental risk assessment related to discharge of storm water priority pollutants to surface waters as well as urban soils and ground waters will be developed. The project is carried out by a multi-disciplinary research team and includes end-users and case studies in four European cities.
