Objectif The SRB (Surface Radiation Budget) is the key to understanding global climate change processes. The goal of the proposed project is to assess the new WCRP /GEWEX (Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment) SRB 1 degree global data (supplied by NASA Langley) using tested deterministic models developed at FORTH (recently applied to the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, published in JGR 1999) . In addition, validation of the European Surface Radiation Budget will be achieved using METEOSAT cloud data and NOAA/AVHRR surface property data (1 km, weekly, FUB) to compute the ESRB and then compare it with ground-based WCRP/BSRN (Baseline Surface Radiation Network, ETH) and other station data for Europe and the Mediterranean Basin. The European validation analysis will correct any GEWEX SRB deficiencies and provide a high quality 1-degree resolution SRB for Europe.
