Objective Mammal Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, located beside the World famous Bialowieza National Park (E Poland),is proposing to create the Centre of Excellence in Biodiversity Conservation and Mammal Research in European Terrestrial Ecosystems - BIOTER. Accompanying measures from EC are applied for to organise Summer Schools of Biodiversity for about 300 students and young researchers from Europe, long-term training for European students in ongoing research on mammals (150 person-months), exchange visits, networking and twinning with EU leading scientists, opening a new research area (GIS), and organising 4 specialised workshops (on mammalian ecology, conservation and management of European bison, and integration of Polish and other European national parks).
