Objective ALIENS is a multidisciplinary approach to the problem of seaweed introductions to European shores. Introduction, establishment and invasion will be studied using a set of ecological-oriented activities, considering several levels of organization from individual traits to community organization, and unreported introductions will be assessed by a genetic phylogeographic approach that will use the geographical distribution of phylogenetic lineages to make inferences on the histories of populations. Both sets of activities will be used to generate a screening protocol, based in the results from these activities and in an economic and theoretical approach.
