The socio-economic impact of regional management of the Irish Sea nephrops and whitefish fisheries on profitability and employment in coastal communities.

Risultati finali

The result is a bio-economic model of the Irish Sea whitefish and nephrops fisheries which optimises and simulates the progress of the fisheries and the output and employment they provide under different scenarios showing the costs and benefits. The objective of the model is to maximise the present value of the economic yield of the fishery subject to economic, biological, and institutional constraints under the assumption that the fishery is efficiently managed. The model calculates the optimal output of the fleets subject to the economic, biological, and institutional constraints, and simulates the progress of the output, income and employment provided by the fishery over a twenty year (or longer) period. It identifies the impact on national economies through a set of output and employment multipliers. The model calculates the optimal output of the fleets subject to the economic, biological, and institutional constraints, and simulates the progress of the output, income and employment provided by the fishery over a twenty year (or longer) period. It identifies the impact on national economies through a set of output and employment multipliers. The model could be used to assess the future behaviour of the fishery under various institutional constraints such as different quota levels.
