Analyse des Lungenkrebsrisikos weiblicher Einwohner von Schneeberg und Schlema durch Radonexposition in Wohnräumen infolge bergbaulicher und geogener Ursachen und Untersuchungen zur Expositionsrekonstruktion

Ziel

The risk estimations for the lung cancer risk in the normal population due to indoor radon exposure contain still defects and cannot give informed guidance for public health measures.
The proposed case-control study will contribute to the evaluation of radon induced cancer risk for the public by pooling data from a population highly exposed to indoor radon in Schneeberg and Schlema (Saxony) with retrospective outcome analysis over more than 40 years with data from the cancer registry of the former German Democratic Republic for females with the data from recent population studies for lower exposed populations in the Bretagne and the Ardennes covering the total exposure range possible.
To overcome a exposure estimation bias in different population studies cross over radon and radon progeny measurements will be additionally exercised with the radon detectors used in each study for quality control.
Past radon exposures of cases and controls will be reconstructed to secure a new quality in exposure estimation.
The objectives of the study are:
- Risk estimation of the relative risk for lung cancer of mainly nonsmoking females due to indoor radon exposure.
- Dosis response analysis taking into account different time dependend accumulated exposure dosis with tumor histology included.
- Securing unified exposure measurements for the valid pooling of exposure data from the participating studies over a wide range from low to very high radon exposure.
- Testing and applying new methods for the reconstruction of past radon exposures and making use of it for risk estimation.
- Derivation of recommendations from the study for public health use in radon-prone areas for primary prevention measures.
