Objectif
UK experience has shown that stakeholder involvement is essential in formulation of strategies for restoring contaminated rural areas. Whilst opinion of individual stakeholders is useful, the most cost-effective method for obtaining a general consensus on practicable strategies derives from setting up and networking of national stakeholder groups. This will be carried out in 5 Member States initially. The stakeholder groups, comprising those individuals involved in making policy decisions, will meet annually to debate and judge the practicability of a range of management options. Opinion will be exchanged with other national groups via the network, and reconsidered in an iterative process. The principal findings will be disseminated through web-site articles. A workshop will be held in the final year of the project to present the state-of-the-art on restoration strategies and promote future expansion of the stakeholder network in Europe.
